Then, apply a small amount of putty around the top of the hole evenly. Remove the locknut and rubber washer from the new strainer. Drop the strainer to the sink and slip the washer up to the sink. Attach the locknut and tighten securely. Finally, attach the chain to the stopper and run water to test for leaks
